Fashion news roundup: How to donate clothing and necessities to California fire victims
Plus flying "Dior bags" in your backyard and a Medal of Freedom for fashion.
Wildfires continue to rage in California. They first ignited Jan. 7 in the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles and have since spread throughout the greater LA area.
The fires have left many residents without basic necessities, including clothing. The Business of Fashion reports that many Los Angeles fashion and beauty brands have put their business on hold as they assess damage. In the meantime, they’re collecting donations to support one another.
Teen Vogue gathered a list of where to donate clothing and toiletries to fire victims. Who What Wear says these brands are also lending a hand.
Note that donating money to brands that can distribute new clothing to victims is more effective than sending your used clothes across the country, where they’ll need to be sorted, cleaned, and distributed. But used clothing drives are available locally, where that process is far more efficient. Companies that have set up more streamlined processes are where to look, like LA’s Seconds Market, which is collecting donations and matching them with people who are similar ages and wear similar sizes.
