Pinterest's trend report is here
Emerging fashion trends include Castlecore, Moto Boho, and... Fisherman Aesthetic? Let's explore.
Pinterest dropped its fifth iteration of Pinterest Predicts on Dec. 5, listing 20 exciting aesthetics it’s coined for 2025, like “Surreal Soirees” and “Mix & Maximalist” based on clumped categories of popular search terms its recorded its users exploring.
By Pinterest’s own estimate, its trend predictions have been accurate 80% of the time. The platform prides itself in calling the “Eclectic Grandpa” aesthetic that saw users indulging in retro style and “grandpacore” in 2023 and 2024. As the proud owner of a vintage grandpa sweater, I can’t exactly argue, and I figured by these measures, it was worth it to explore what Pinterest had to say.
Plus, the bold trends the app has predicted for the year ahead are just downright fun, and we’re all about having a good time here. Let’s jump in!
It’s all about color — and lots of it
Pinterest says 2025 will be the year of the “makeup mood ring,” particularly among Gen Z and Boomers, in a trend prediction it’s dubbed Aura Beauty (+5,000 aura points for the name, of course). Searches for colorful makeup, like bold eye looks and purple blush, are on the rise. The creative and personal possibilities here are endless, with self-expression through makeup taking center stage.
Another prediction, Dolled Up, sees users dipping into dollhouse aesthetics, from a growing interest in babydoll makeup to “whimsical” color schemes.
Both trends align with the ongoing era of dopamine dressing, where Gen Z in particular is expressing themselves with ultra-customization, color and accessories, like charms on bags and shoes, and maximalist fashion, which Pinterest says is also bleeding into decor.
But if one color will reign supreme, Pinterest says it’ll be red. It’s a timeless and ever-popular choice, but Cherry Coded anticipates the color’s continued prevalence in “makeup, menus and mood boards.” Searches for “dark cherry red” have spiked 235%.
The future is fantasy

Another beauty trend Pinterest predicts is Sea Witchery, and as someone who seriously considered dressing as a siren for Halloween this year, this feels spot-on. This style leans darker than your traditional mermaid look; searches for dark siren makeup, wavy wet hair and sea-inspired nails are all trending.
Possibly one of the more surprising predictions is Castlecore. Searches for castle house plans and chainmail are fueling this trend, but considering Chappell Roan’s jaw-dropping VMAs look and matching performance this year, medieval makes sense. Golden hardware accessories like hair cuffs and bold jewelry possibilities add to the appeal.
The almost costume-like trend predictions continue with Goddess Complex, which anticipates more pins reflecting a flowing, shimmering, ethereal feminine energy. Growing search terms include golden beauty and twisted braids. “Everything will be a muse moment,” Pinterest declares.
Sci-fi and eco-friendliness merge with Terra Futura. My recent fascination with solarpunk means I’ve likely contributed to these searches, but I clearly need to research “chaos gardening,” which has seen a 300% rise in interest.
Fringe, lace and leather
Pinterest combines some of my personal trend observations into their term, Moto Boho, which trades the traditional hippie aesthetic for a grungier, edgy and more industrialized look that’s streetwear ready.
A “maritime attitude”
Pinterest is trying to make Fisherman Aesthetic happen after a successful style run for Coastal Grandma, and while increased searches for navy stripes and cable knits are perfectly understandable (preppy niches aren’t going anywhere), I need to find out who’s responsible for the reported 80% spike in searches for sardine tattoos.
In all seriousness, though, I can’t ignore that elements of this trend have been present on the runway in recent seasons, like boat shoes with socks and fisherman sweaters and jackets. Ahoy!
The return of twinning?
Finally, the searches are on for matches made in heaven with Seeing Double, resulting in a boost in matching clothes and coordinated outfits among friend groups.
Whether you’re ready to embrace fantasy, lean into maximalism, or just add a touch of cherry red to your wardrobe, Pinterest’s predictions for 2025 promise a colorful, bold, and imaginative year ahead.
